Chapter 15 – Love and Responsibility: Life, Sex, and Care for the Poor Love Unveiled

Mary –  This chapter touches on a few things that I think are very important to the practice of our faith so I will touch on them here, simply as a reminder.  First, we do live in a very self-centered society where all the emphasis is on achieving, obtaining, gaining, laying up, more and more for ourselves and those closest to us, rather than emphasizing the community and the need to care for others.  We must remember that when much is given to us, much is expected as well.    Can any of us say that …Follow this path →

Chapter 14 – A Catholic Moral Worldview Love Unveiled

In my graduate studies at Duquesne University, Fr. Sean Kealy taught a course on the Old Testament and his words still come to mind when talking about moral law. He encouraged us to view the Ten Commandments not as rules to restrict us, but rather as a Charter of Freedom. For each of the commandments he would explain how living that commandment would liberate one from fear or burden or loss. For example, honoring your parents would free them from the fear of growing old, safe in the knowledge that they would be taken care …Follow this path →

Chapter 13 – Confession Love Unveiled

In this chapter, Sri unfolds the Sacrament of Reconciliation and also looks at some of the common objections or obstacles folks have in frequenting this sacrament. With regards to faith, sometimes our eyes are blinded or, perhaps more accurately, we are not open to the grace God wishes to pour into our lives. I must admit, that until a retreat given by Archbishop Bernard (Bernie, as he likes to be called) Hebda, I had little interest in Divine Mercy or Saint Faustina. Mercy was the theme of the retreat given by Archbishop Hebda and in …Follow this path →

Blessings by Laura Story My music tastes run a wide range of genres and close to the top is Praise and Worship. Several weeks ago, I stumbled upon this song by Laura Story. It speaks to those who are experiencing difficulties in their lives and challenges the listener to ponder them from a different perspective.  As a newlywed of only a year, Laura’s husband was hospitalized with a brain tumor. The couple faced surgery, radiation, setbacks and extensive physical therapy. Her song, Blessings, asks, “what if your blessings come through raindrops?”  If you listen to …Follow this path →
